The Harwich Mariners (1-0)'s three first-inning runs built an early lead that helped bring home a 7-2 win over the Brewster Whitecaps (0-1) on Wednesday at Whitehouse Field.
The Harwich Mariners scored in the first on a two-run double by Ian Happ, a two-run double by Happ, and an RBI single by C.J. Hinojosa.
Happ had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits.
Seth McGarry pitched lights out for the Harwich Mariners. McGarry held the Brewster Whitecaps hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out six.
Despite the loss, the Brewster Whitecaps' Pat Ruotolo dominated the Harwich Mariners' batters, giving up three runs and striking out five.
Zack Erwin got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed two runs over six innings. Erwin struck out seven, walked one and gave up six hits.
