The Normal CornBelters (23-21) refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against the Joliet Slammers (17-27), recording an 11-3 victory on Tuesday at The Corn Crib.
With six runs in the first three innings, the Normal CornBelters left no doubt about the eventual outcome.
A solo home run by Sam Judah and a groundout by Ozney Guillen in the second inning supplied the early offense for the Normal CornBelters.The Normal CornBelters were led by a flawless day at the dish by Richard Lucas, who went 3-3 against the Joliet Slammers' pitching. He doubled in the second and third innings and singled in the fifth inning.
Grant DeBruin racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Joliet Slammers. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.
Cullen Babin improved to 5-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Normal CornBelters. He allowed three runs over seven innings. He struck out four, walked none and surrendered seven hits.
Travis Bradshaw ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed six runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out one.
