A walk-off single from Patrick McClure brought home the winning run for the Lake Norman Copperheads (19-15) in a 5-4 victory over the Ballantyne Smokies at Hopewell HS on Tuesday.
McClure reached base two times. He singled in the ninth inning.
The Lake Norman Copperheads were led by Pierce Suttles's hitting. Suttles went 2-4 and scored two runs. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the ninth inning.
Kurt Kempema pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks while striking out two.
Kirk Morgan recorded his first win of the year for the Lake Norman Copperheads. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered no hits.
Ben Taylor was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
