JJ Sorensen had two extra base hits, helping the Nine (4-7) to a 6-5 victory over the Newport (4-6) on Saturday at Cardines Field.

Andrew Smiley pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs, four hits and two walks while striking out five.

Despite the loss, the Newport's CJ Silva dominated the Nine's batters, giving up two runs and striking out six.

Bill Bergan led the Newport's offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored one run and had one RBI. He singled in the sixth and eighth innings.

Rob Rushton got the win, running his season record to 1-1. He allowed one run over one inning. He struck out none, walked none and surrendered one hit.
