The Joliet Slammers (19-29) shut the door early on the Schaumburg Boomers (26-22), capturing a 14-3 victory on Friday at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium.
Seven runs in the first three innings allowed the Joliet Slammers to put the game away early.
An RBI single by Jose Garcia, an RBI double by Jake Gronsky, a fielder's choice, an error, a fielder's choice, a sacrifice fly by Christopher Epps, an RBI single by Russell Moldenhauer, and an RBI double by Grant DeBruin during the second inning fueled the Joliet Slammers' offense early.The Joliet Slammers were led by Seth Granger's hitting. Granger went 4-5, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the second, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings.
Blair Walters picked up the win for the Joliet Slammers. Walters pitched eight innings and allowed three earned runs, six hits and two walks while striking out four.
Michael Valadez racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Schaumburg Boomers. He doubled in the fifth inning and singled in the seventh inning.
Hunter Ackerman (1-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed 12 runs in six innings, walked none and struck out three.
