The Auburn Wildcats (19-21) had a tough outing on Friday, as the Alameda Merchants (28-12) dominated in an 11-3 win at St. Marys College.
The Alameda Merchants scored five runs in the fifth on a fielder's choice, a two-run single by Kelly Starnes, an RBI single by Jake Westhorpe, a fielder's choice, and an RBI single by Jordan Grubbs.
JR Davis paced the Alameda Merchants at the plate. Davis went 2-5, drove in one and scored three runs. He singled in the first and second innings.
Matt Fontaine picked up the win for the Alameda Merchants. Fontaine allowed three earned runs, 11 hits and one walk while striking out six over nine innings of work.
Antonio Ibarra racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Auburn Wildcats. He singled in the third inning, homered in the fifth inning, and doubled in the ninth inning.
Mike Proiette (4-3) took the loss for the Auburn Wildcats. He allowed nine runs in four innings, walked two and struck out two.
