The Washington Wild Things escape the Joliet Slammers behind Lee's 6 strikeouts, 3-0

An exceptional effort by Gary Lee hoisted the Washington Wild Things (6-4) to a 3-0 win in eight innings over the Joliet Slammers (4-6) on Wednesday at Silver Cross Field.

The Washington Wild Things' Lee kept the Joliet Slammers off the scoreboard for all seven innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out six.

Jovan Rosa pushed the Washington Wild Things ahead, in the sixth inning, and the lead lasted until the final out. After C.J. Beatty singled, Rosa came to the plate with zero outs in the sixth and hit a sacrifice fly, plating Beatty.

Darian Sanford was solid at the plate for the Washington Wild Things. Sanford went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the seventh inning.

Corey Kimes was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just six innings, walked two, struck out four, and allowed three runs.
