Justin Burgess was cold coming off the bench, but Burgess warmed up quickly as Burgess stroked a key pinch-hit single in the nine to lead the Yorkton Cardinals (7-11) to an 8-7 win over the Melville Millionaires (10-8) on Sunday at Jubilee Park.
With the score tied at seven in the ninth inning, Burgess came to the plate and singled.
Michael Meany racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Yorkton Cardinals. He homered in the fifth inning and singled in the eighth inning.
Matt Bowles pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs, six hits and one walk while striking out five.
AJ Florence went a perfect 3-3 at the dish for the Melville Millionaires. He singled in the third, seventh, and ninth innings.
Matt Chavarria got the win, running his season record to 1-1. He allowed two runs over one inning. Chavarria struck out two, walked none and gave up two hits.
Jaime Paxton was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run.
