A superb effort by Matthew Scruggs spurred the Alpine Cowboys (43-26) to a 20-11 win over the Roswell Invaders (50-17) on Sunday at Joe Bauman Park.
Scruggs racked up 10 RBIs on four hits for the Alpine Cowboys. He tripled in the fifth inning, singled in the sixth inning, and homered in the first and eighth innings.
Eric Herman delivered a big hit off the bench in the one.. His pinch-hit single was the key moment in the Alpine Cowboys' nine-run win.
With Herman came to the plate and singled.
Herman boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 4-4 day at the plate to pace the Alpine Cowboys.
Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 31 runs and 35 hits, including zero extra base hits. Both bullpens were busy with 11 pitchers used in the game as the skippers of both squads tried to finish it off.
The Alpine Cowboys blew out the Roswell Invaders thanks to 22 hits, including zero extra base hits. The Alpine Cowboys scored five runs in the sixth on an RBI triple by Casanova Donaldson, a three-run triple by Herman, and an RBI single by Scruggs.
Shane Youngdale got his seventh win for the Alpine Cowboys despite allowing seven runs over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out two, walked two and surrendered nine hits.
Ryan Richardson (1-2) took the loss for the Roswell Invaders. He allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked none and struck out two.
