A superb effort by Lisa Norris led the Akron Racers (2-6) to a 1-0 win over the USSSA Pride (6-2) on Saturday at Whataburger Field.
Norris had an impressive outing against the USSSA Pride's lineup. Norris gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out six during her seven innings of work.
Kelley Montalvo helped the Akron Racers take the lead for good in the fifth inning. With the game scoreless in the fifth inning Montalvo came to the plate and homered.
Montalvo paced the Akron Racers at the plate. Montalvo went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. She homered in the fifth inning and singled in the seventh inning.
Sarah Pauly ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with her first loss of the year. She lasted just seven innings, walked none, struck out five, and allowed one run.
