A nine-run explosion in the second inning lifted the USSSA Pride (5-1) to a 13-2 win over the Akron Racers (1-5) at Whataburger Field on Friday.
Kristyn Sandberg racked up three RBIs on two hits for the USSSA Pride. She doubled in the first inning, singled in the second inning, and homered in the fifth inning.
The USSSA Pride got the win thanks in large part to Cat Osterman's dominant, 12-strikeout performance. Osterman allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks over six innings.
Charlotte Morgan had a hot bat for the Akron Racers. Morgan went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. She homered in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.
Erin Arevalo (0-2) took the loss for the Akron Racers. She allowed eight runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out none.
The USSSA Pride pounded the Akron Racers pitching, as six hitters combined for 12 hits, 10 RBIs and eight runs scored.
