Early lead not enough for the Terre Haute Rex, drop 5-4 decision to the Quincy Gems

The Terre Haute Rex (20-21) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 5-4 to the Quincy Gems (26-13) on Saturday.

The Quincy Gems took the lead in the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Light.

Caleb Howell paced the Quincy Gems at the plate. Howell went 3-5. He singled in the third, fifth, and seventh innings.

Will Schierholz looked sharp on the mound. Schierholz gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out none during his 2 2/3 innings of work.

Tyler Wampler reached base two times in the game for the Terre Haute Rex. He singled in the second inning.

Austin Tribby got the win, running his season record to 4-2. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered no hits.

Ben Mahar (0-3) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
