The Slippery Rock Sliders (17-23) shut the door early on the Richmond RiverRats (15-25), capturing a 9-2 victory on Thursday at Jack Critchfield Park.

Seven runs in the first three innings allowed the Slippery Rock Sliders to put the game away early.

A two-run home run by Matthew Calhoun during the first inning supplied the early offense for the Slippery Rock Sliders.

Calhoun racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Slippery Rock Sliders.

The Richmond RiverRats were led by Ryan Akins's hitting. Akins went 3-4 and scored one run. He singled in the second, fourth, and sixth innings.

Matt Riggs improved to 2-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Slippery Rock Sliders. He allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out four, walked none and surrendered nine hits.

Matt Brankle (1-3) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in 2 1/3 innings, walked four and struck out two.
