An exceptional effort by David Hess carried the West Virginia Miners (12-10) to a 4-1 win over the Slippery Rock Sliders on Friday at Jack Critchfield Park.
Hess picked up the win for the West Virginia Miners. Hess allowed one earned run, three hits and no walks while striking out five over nine innings of work.
Dale Davis was hot from the plate for the West Virginia Miners. Davis went 3-4 and scored one run. He singled in the first and fourth innings and tripled in the sixth inning.
Matthew Calhoun had a hot bat for the Slippery Rock Sliders (9-13). Calhoun went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the fourth inning and homered in the seventh inning.
The West Virginia Miners couldn't get anything going as long as Alex Watson was pitching. The West Virginia Miners managed just three hits off of Watson, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his 2 2/3 innings of work.
Zach Place was charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out four, and allowed four runs.
