The Springfield Sliders (4-17) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 5-3 to the Hannibal Cavemen (9-11) on Friday.
While the Springfield Sliders led until the eighth inning, the Hannibal Cavemen worked their way back and took the lead on a two-run double by Michael Duarte.
Duarte racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Hannibal Cavemen. He singled in the seventh inning and doubled in the eighth inning.
The Springfield Sliders had no answer for Carl Brice, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Springfield Sliders managed just one hit off of the the Hannibal Cavemen's pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his two innings of work.
Dalton Cowen ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked two, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
