Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Saturday as the Red Deer (1-5) outscored the Fort McMurray (1-10) 10-8 in seven innings.
The teams totaled 17 hits in the game.
The Red Deer staved off the Fort McMurray as the Fort McMurray were unable to match the Red Deer down the stretch.
The Fort McMurray scored on a passed ball, , , an RBI single by Brett Beyak, , and in the sixth inning and an RBI single by Beyak and a hit by pitch in the seventh inning. Still, the Fort McMurray couldn't catch the Red Deer.
Jesse Muirhead was solid at the plate for the Red Deer. Muirhead went 3-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the second, third, and fourth innings.
Mac Guckert recorded his first win for the Red Deer even though he allowed five runs over 5 2/3 innings. Guckert struck out seven, walked six and gave up two hits.
Warren Kragnes (0-3) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed 10 runs in four innings, walked two and struck out three.
