The Southern Illinois Miners (45-36) jumped out to an early lead on the Joliet Slammers (33-48) and captured a 9-3 victory on Sunday at Silver Cross Field.

With six runs in the first three innings, the Southern Illinois Miners left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

An RBI single by Jereme Milons during the first inning and a fielder's choice, , a single by Andrew Cohn, an error, a fielder's choice, a single by Carlos Mendez, and in the second inning helped the Southern Illinois Miners put some runs on the board early.

Cory Harrilchak reached base five times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He singled in the fifth, seventh, and ninth innings.

Blake Nation improved to 9-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Southern Illinois Miners. He allowed three runs over six innings. He struck out four, walked three and surrendered four hits.

Corey Kimes couldn't get it done on the hill for the Joliet Slammers, taking a loss. He allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked three and struck out one.
