Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Sunday as the Southern Illinois Miners (34-27) outscored the Rockford Aviators (20-40) 9-8.
The teams totaled 27 hits in the game.
Gerardo Avila racked up five RBIs on three hits for the Southern Illinois Miners. He homered in the first inning and singled in the seventh and eighth innings.
The Rockford Aviators had no answer for Pete Perez, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Rockford Aviators managed just two hits off of Perez, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his two innings of work.
Matt Crim got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed four runs over six innings. He struck out six, walked one and surrendered seven hits.
Nick Grim was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed three runs.
