The Southern Illinois Miners (19-17) blew out the River City Rascals (14-21) 9-1 on Thursday at T. R. Hughes Ballpark after pouring on six runs in the fifth inning.

The River City Rascals had the lead early, but couldn't hold off the Southern Illinois Miners. The River City Rascals were ahead until the fourth inning, but the Southern Illinois Miners would not be denied the win, taking the lead back on an RBI single by Phil Butler.

The Southern Illinois Miners were led by Gerardo Avila's hitting. Avila went 3-4 and scored two runs. He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the fifth and sixth innings.

The Southern Illinois Miners relied on Travis Bradshaw to eat up innings en route to the win. Bradshaw allowed no earned runs, six hits and two walks while striking out three over seven innings of work.

Justin Sarratt couldn't get it done on the rubber for the River City Rascals, taking a loss. He lasted just 3 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out six, and allowed three runs.
