The Florence Freedom (3-4) were never able to get over the hump and get over their troubles against the Joliet Slammers (4-3) on Friday, as the Florence Freedom fell 6-4 at Silver Cross Field after falling behind by four runs in the seventh inning.

The Florence Freedom scored two runs in the eighth on two errors. Still, the Florence Freedom couldn't draw even.

Matthew Scruggs racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Joliet Slammers. He singled in the third and seventh innings.

The Joliet Slammers got the win thanks in large part to Chuck Lofgren's dominant, eight-strikeout performance. Lofgren allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks over seven innings.

Eric Groff had two extra-base hits for the Florence Freedom. He homered in the first inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

Justice French (0-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just three innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
