The Gateway Grizzlies get key pinch-hit in 8-6 victory over the Schaumburg Boomers

Jason Sullivan was cold coming off the bench, but Sullivan warmed up quickly as Sullivan stroked a key pinch-hit single in the six to lead the Gateway Grizzlies (5-2) to an 8-6 win over the Schaumburg Boomers (5-3) on Friday at GCS Ballpark.

With Sullivan came to the plate and singled.

The Gateway Grizzlies held off the Schaumburg Boomers, as the Schaumburg Boomers were unable to overcome a five-run third inning deficit.

The Schaumburg Boomers scored on an RBI double by Sean Mahley and a groundout by Craig Hertler in the fourth inning and an RBI single by Hertler, a sacrifice fly by Frank Pfister, and an RBI single by Chad Mozingo in the sixth inning. Still, the Schaumburg Boomers couldn't catch the Gateway Grizzlies.

Vladimir Frias racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Gateway Grizzlies. He homered in the second inning and singled in the seventh inning.

JaVaun West improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Gateway Grizzlies. He allowed three runs over five innings. West struck out three, walked three and gave up five hits.

Cody Griebling (0-1) took the loss for the Schaumburg Boomers. He allowed seven runs in four innings, walked two and struck out one.
