Brandon Grove went 1-3, helping the Gaithersburg Giants (13-7) to a 3-0 victory over the Vienna River Dogs (9-10) on Saturday at James Madison High School.
He singled in the first inning.Joe Patton looked sharp on the mound. The Vienna River Dogs managed just one hit off of Patton, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out five during his 3 2/3 innings of work.
A bright spot for the Vienna River Dogs in the defeat was Nathaniel Abel, who allowed only two runs while striking out seven.
Nick Riley recorded his third win of the year for the Gaithersburg Giants. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered one hit.
Abel (2-1) was the game's losing pitcher.
