An outstanding effort by Matt Fontaine hoisted the Alameda Merchants (6-1) to an 8-2 win in seven innings over the Atwater Aviators (4-9) on Wednesday at College of Alameda.
The Atwater Aviators had no answer for Fontaine, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Fontaine gave up just one hit, allowed two earned runs, walked one and struck out 10 during his seven innings of work.
Seven runs in the first three innings helped the Alameda Merchants blow out the Atwater Aviators. A single by Roger Luna, , an RBI single by JR Davis, an RBI single by Shea Harrison, a sacrifice fly by Joe Armstrong, and a triple by Steve Moen during the second inning fueled the Alameda Merchants' offense early.
Davis racked up three RBIs on four hits for the Alameda Merchants.
The Atwater Aviators were led by Matthew Moceri's hitting. Moceri went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the seventh inning.
Nick Pino couldn't get it done on the hill for the Atwater Aviators, taking a loss. He allowed six runs in two innings, walked two and struck out two.
