The Danbury Westerners (4-3) didn't have a chance on Saturday, as the Newport Gulls (6-1) won in blowout fashion, 8-1 at Rogers Park.
A three-run home run by Kasey Coffman helped the Newport Gulls score three runs in the fifth. The Newport Gulls had two hits in the inning.
Charlie White reached base four times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the second and sixth innings.
Pete Kelich's 13 strikeouts were enough to push the Newport Gulls past the Danbury Westerners. Kelich allowed one earned run on four hits and three walks over seven innings.
Stephen Catalina ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed six runs in five innings, walked two and struck out five.
