An excellent effort by Jake Gronsky hoisted the Danbury Westerners (2-1) to a 10-7 win over the North Adams SteepleCats (1-2) on Sunday at Rogers Park.
Gronsky rocked the North Adams SteepleCats with two home runs. Gronsky went 4-5 in the game with four RBIs and three runs scored. Gronsky homered in the second and sixth innings.
The game was back-and-forth heading into the fifth, with four lead changes.
Brandon Adkins looked sharp on the mound. Adkins held the North Adams SteepleCats hitless over 3 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out five.
Jeff Roy racked up two RBIs on two hits for the North Adams SteepleCats. He homered in the first inning and singled in the fourth inning.
Adam Sargent ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked three, struck out two, and allowed five runs.
