An excellent effort by Zack Smith carried the Plaza Tire Capahas (1-0) to a 1-0 win over the Topeka Golden Giants (0-1) on Monday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
The Plaza Tire Capahas' Smith kept the Topeka Golden Giants off the scoreboard for all nine innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on three hits while ringing up seven.
Kenton Parmley pushed the Plaza Tire Capahas ahead, in the seventh inning, and the lead lasted until the final out. Jason Blum to start the seventh. He then went from first to second. Finally, Parmley came to the plate with the game scoreless in the seventh inning and grounded out, scoring Blum.
DREW MOBLEY couldn't get it done on the mound for the Topeka Golden Giants, taking a loss. He lasted just two innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed one run.
