The Haysville Heat (1-0) built an early lead against the Valley Center Diamond Dawgs (0-1), scoring three runs in the first inning, en route to a 4-3 win on Saturday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Blake Hugaert helped the Haysville Heat pull ahead for the duration in the ninth inning. With the score tied at three, Hugaert came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly, plating Adam McCormick.

Matt Royal recorded his first win of the year for the Haysville Heat. Royal struck out four, walked none and gave up two hits.

Tim Suminski couldn't get it done on the hill for the Valley Center Diamond Dawgs, taking a loss. He lasted just one inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed one run.
