A walk-off single from Chris Sweeney brought home the winning run for the Alexandria Aces (20-21) in a 4-3 victory over the Vienna River Dogs (23-18) at James Madison High School on Sunday.
Sweeney racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Alexandria Aces. He singled in the fifth and ninth innings.
Adam Forrer reached base four times in the game for the Alexandria Aces. He scored three runs and had one RBI. He doubled in the third innings and singled in the fifth and seventh innings.
The Vienna River Dogs couldn't get anything going as long as Shelby Dixon was on the mound. Dixon gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three during his two innings of work.
Justin Albright ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked two, struck out two, and allowed one run.
