The Salinas Tomahawks (2-34) were never able to get over the hump and overcome their troubles against the Fresno Cardinals (23-10) on Thursday, as the Salinas Tomahawks fell 8-6 at North Salinas High School after falling behind by five runs in the sixth inning.
The Salinas Tomahawks scored three runs in the sixth on an error, an RBI single by Jaime Vega, and an RBI triple by Tyler Provost. Still, the Salinas Tomahawks couldn't draw even.
Tanner Irwin had a hot bat for the Fresno Cardinals. Irwin went 2-5, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the fifth inning and homered in the sixth inning.
Eian Raeber improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Fresno Cardinals. Raeber struck out one, walked none and gave up two hits.
Colby Genasci was charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed seven runs in five innings, walked two and struck out two.
