A superb effort by Celson Polanco carried the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (16-10) to a 1-0 win in eight innings over the Fort Worth Cats (16-10) on Thursday at Harlingen Field.

The Rio Grande Valley Whitewings' Polanco kept the Fort Worth Cats off the scoreboard for all eight innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on six hits while striking out six.

Steve Barnes ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 7 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out three, and allowed one run.
