Burlington outlasts Toronto Jr. Canadiens, 3-2

The Burlington Cougars and the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Junior Canadiens were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Burlington made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

The Cougars gained the winning advantage on a goal by Philip Lagunov 18:31 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Toronto Jr. Canadiens faces elimination next time out.

Burlington was paced by Lagunov, who grabbed one goal.

The Cougars forced the Junior Canadiens goalie Daniel Lopapa to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Burlington also had goals scored by Zac Herrmann and Nathan Gomes, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were James McLaughlin, who had two and Jordan Peacock, Kevin Dimagno, David Thomson, and Griffin James, who each chipped in one.

Toronto Jr. Canadiens kept Burlington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Lee made 32 saves on 34 shots.

The Junior Canadiens were helped by Connor Beck, who had one goal. Beck scored on the power play 8:01 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Burlington. Toronto Jr. Canadiens had gained a power play chance when Nicholas Holt was whistled for slashing. Andrew Mullen picked up the assist. Lucas Colalillo also scored for Toronto Jr. Canadiens. More assists for Toronto Jr. Canadiens came via Alex Lee, George Novachis, and Michael Siddall, who contributed one each.

The Cougars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Daniel Lopapa made 30 saves for the Junior Canadiens on 33 shots. Toronto Jr. Canadiens incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
