Huge game by Cornell boosts Meijer AAA 18U over Washington Little Capitals 18U, 6-2

Luke Cornell was all over the ice for Meijer AAA 18U, as he tallied one goal and four assists in Meijer AAA 18U's 6-2 win over Washington Little Capitals 18U.

Cornell beat Alex Chen with a shot 15:31 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Meijer AAA 18U. Nick Koperdak provided the assist. Cornell dished an assist on Skylar Miller's goal that made the score 1-0 Meijer AAA 18U at 4:55 into the first period. He then added assists on Collin Rewerts's goal at 11:05 into the second, on Rewerts' goal at 4:08 into the third, and on Miller's goal at 9:28 into the third.

Meijer AAA 18U's penalty kill excelled, as Meijer AAA 18U gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Meijer AAA 18U stifled Washington Little Capitals 18U's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Meijer AAA 18U forced Washington Little Capitals 18U goalie Chen to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Meijer AAA 18U bested its season scoring average. This season, Meijer AAA 18U averages 3.0 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Meijer AAA 18U also got points from Rewerts, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Miller, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Meijer AAA 18U also got a goal from Caleb Hite as well. In addition, Meijer AAA 18U received assists from Zack Olen, who had two and Pat Modaff and Andrew Walker, who contributed one each.

Washington Little Capitals 18U was helped by Cade Groton, who had one goal. Groton scored 8:47 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Washington Little Capitals 18U. Ryan Leibold picked up the assist. Washington Little Capitals 18U additionally got points from Adam Beyerlein, who also registered one goal and one assist.

Meijer AAA 18U's Colt Hanks stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Meijer AAA 18U incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and had no power play opportunities. Alex Chen made 28 saves for Washington Little Capitals 18U on 34 shots.
