Minnesota Magicans 18U vanquishes Washington Little Capitals 18U in shootout, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Minnesota Magicans 18U defeated Washington Little Capitals 18U in a shootout 4-3.

The shootout featured 14 attempts between both teams. Washington Little Capitals 18U got shootout goals from Cade Groton and David Leitzel. In addition to the clincher, Minnesota Magicans 18U got shootout goals from Jack Graveline and Jared Gherardi.

Minnesota Magicans 18U came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Minnesota Magicans 18U was down 3-1 after a goal by Washington Little Capitals 18U's Alec Guarnero at 3:33 in the second period. Minnesota Magicans 18U knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Eric Otto at 3:09 in the third period.

Minnesota Magicans 18U stifled Washington Little Capitals 18U's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Minnesota Magicans 18U kept Washington Little Capitals 18U's goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Chen made 34 saves on 38 shots.

Minnesota Magicans 18U also got a goal from Chase Gackle as well. In addition, Minnesota Magicans 18U received assists from Gherardi, Ben Bjerken, Sasha Choporov, Graveline, and Jake Thomas, who each chipped in one.

Washington Little Capitals 18U excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Ryan Leibold also scored for Washington Little Capitals 18U. More assists for Washington Little Capitals 18U came via Peyton Nash, who had two and Adam Beyerlein, Aaron Agena, Leitzel, and Justin Daves, who contributed one each.

Jon Kallestad made 17 saves for Minnesota Magicans 18U on 20 shots. Minnesota Magicans 18U incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Washington Little Capitals 18U incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
