Omaha AAA 18U uses shootout to best HC Dallas 18U, 2-1

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Omaha AAA 18U defeated HC Dallas 18U in a shootout 2-1.

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams.

Omaha AAA 18U came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Omaha AAA 18U fell behind 1-0 after a goal by HC Dallas 18U's Louis Helsen at 5:11 in the second period. Omaha AAA 18U knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Johnny Bennis at 9:56 in the second period.

Omaha AAA 18U managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Omaha AAA 18U ended up below its season average of 11.0 penalty minutes per game. Omaha AAA 18U forced HC Dallas 18U goalie Hunter Smith to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots.

In addition, Omaha AAA 18U received assists from Conor Yawney, who had one.

Other players who recorded assists for HC Dallas 18U were Brendan Coughlin and Chris Weatherly, who each chipped in one.

Omaha AAA 18U's Cole Weaver stopped 18 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Omaha AAA 18U registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Smith rejected 46 shots on goal for HC Dallas 18U. HC Dallas 18U incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities.
