Oakville survives Orangeville comeback, wins 5-3

The Oakville Blades, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Orangeville Flyers and clinched a 5-3 victory.

Oakville led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Blades' Greg Campbell scored at 1:13 in the third period to put Oakville up 4-1.

With the win, the Blades avoided elimination to make the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series.

Matt Lippa had two goals and one assist to lead Oakville. Lippa scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 19:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Oakville. A cross checking penalty on Ryan Anton had put the Blades on the power play. Brandon Hughes assisted on the tally. Lippa's next tally on the power play made the score 3-0 Oakville with 10:09 left in the second period. Oakville had gotten the advantage when Orangeville's Adam Giacomin was sent off for hooking. Kamil Tkaczuk provided the assist.

The Blades forced the Flyers' goalies to work without much rest, getting 54 shots and forcing 49 saves. Wyatt Pickrell made 40 stops and Nicholas Latinovich made nine. The defensemen of Oakville were also effective in Orangeville's zone, and came away with two goals.

Oakville additionally got points from Daniel Jelic, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Campbell, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Max Lindsay also scored for Oakville. In addition, Oakville received assists from Matthew McLeod and Tyler Rollo, who each chipped in one.

The Flyers forced the Blades goalie Daniel Mannella to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Orangeville was helped by Connor Stack, who had one goal. Stack scored 7:31 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Oakville. Ian Nichols picked up the assist. Orangeville also had goals scored by John DiLorenzo and Colin Rigney, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Kosta Likourezos, James McLaughlin, Lucas Smilsky, Darren Nesbitt, and Ethan Wiseman, who contributed one each.

Mannella recorded 28 saves for Oakville. The Blades incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Flyers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
