Cobourg's Armour deadly on offense in 5-2 win against Whitby

Behind a great game by Connor Armour, who had two goals, the Cobourg Cougars defeated the Whitby Fury, 5-2.

Armour found the back of the net 14:06 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg and again while 5:59 into the second to make the score 3-1 Cobourg.

The win by Cobourg clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.

The Cougars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Whitby to score on any of its five power plays. The Fury were unable to stop Cobourg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Cobourg's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Cobourg also got points from Liam Grande, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Cobourg included Josh Hopkin and Riley Stillman, who each put in one. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Alex Riche, who had two and Matt Watson, Mitchell Gibson, and Connor Hogg, who contributed one each.

Whitby's offense rang up 31 shots on the Cougars' net.

The Fury were helped by Nik Coric, who grabbed one goal. Coric scored 2:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Ryan Kirkup assisted on the tally. Whitby also got a goal from Kevin Dimagno as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Stefan von Engelbrechten and Jeremy Wu, who each chipped in one.

Tyler Lewis made 29 saves for Cobourg on 31 shots. The Cougars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Tyler Feaver recorded 27 saves for Whitby. The Fury incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
