Phoenix Knights' comeback falls short, Tulsa Jr. Oilers wins 5-3

Tulsa Jr. Oilers, which led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Phoenix Knights and clinched a 5-3 victory.

Tulsa Jr. Oilers led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Tulsa Jr. Oilers' Andrew Wyrrick scored at 13:35 in the first period to put Tulsa Jr. Oilers up 3-0.

Ivan Bukshevannyy had a great game for Tulsa Jr. Oilers, netting two goals. Bukshevannyy scored at 2:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tulsa Jr. Oilers and again while 10:15 into the second to make the score 4-2 Tulsa Jr. Oilers.

Tulsa Jr. Oilers was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. Tulsa Jr. Oilers surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game.

Tulsa Jr. Oilers also got points from Sam Mancini, who also racked up one goal and four assists to lead the team in points. Keiran Spettie also scored for Tulsa Jr. Oilers. In addition, Tulsa Jr. Oilers received assists from Kyle Messer, who had one and Sam Hiserodt, who had two.

Phoenix Knights' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Phoenix Knights had been spending in the box. Phoenix Knights stifled Tulsa Jr. Oilers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Phoenix Knights forced Tulsa Jr. Oilers goalie Richard Albrecht to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Phoenix Knights was led by Mitch Cobby, who had two goals and one assist. Cobby scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:57 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Tulsa Jr. Oilers. Phoenix Knights had gotten the advantage when Tulsa Jr. Oilers' Aaron Bessey was sent off for high sticking. William Wallin assisted on the tally. Cobby's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Tulsa Jr. Oilers with 4:27 left in the second period. Others who scored for Phoenix Knights included Brennan Johnsson and Brynton Macnab, who each put in one. More assists for Phoenix Knights came via Charlie Allen, Jordan Kaspick, and Braden Cooper, who contributed one each.

Albrecht rejected 38 shots on goal for Tulsa Jr. Oilers. Tulsa Jr. Oilers registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Tulsa Jr. Oilers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bukshevannyy was ejected from the game. Luke Stripp made four saves before being replaced by Colton Pankiw, who took the loss and made nine saves. Phoenix Knights registered two goals on nine power play opportunities.
