Colorado Evolution falls apart in second, loses to Colorado RoughRiders, 9-2

Colorado Evolution allowed Colorado RoughRiders to net four goals during the second period and fell, 9-2.

Colorado RoughRiders got the win with help from a great game by Walker Harris, who had one goal and four assists. Harris scored on the power play 17:46 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Colorado RoughRiders. Colorado RoughRiders had taken the advantage when Colorado Evolution's Anders Saarela got sent off for hooking. Thayne Trumbull assisted on the tally.

Colorado Evolution's 13 penalties came back to haunt it, as Colorado Evolution let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Colorado RoughRiders' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Colorado RoughRiders surpassed its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. Colorado RoughRiders excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Colorado Evolution was unable to stop Colorado RoughRiders from sending pucks towards the net, and Colorado RoughRiders eventually piled up 62 shots on goal. Colorado RoughRiders surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Colorado RoughRiders averages 4.0 goals per game.

Colorado RoughRiders additionally got points from Cody Oakes, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Blake Couture, who also had one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, and Trumbull, who also tallied two goals and two assists. Stephen Dora also scored for Colorado RoughRiders. Other players who recorded assists for Colorado RoughRiders were Devon Pilkington, who had two and Anthony Newsome, Nick Kukuris, and Martin Bakula, who each chipped in one.

Colorado Evolution forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and three majors for 65 minutes in penalty time. Colorado Evolution had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Colorado Evolution did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 13 shots on net to force 11 saves.

Colorado Evolution was helped by Jon Dewerd, who racked up one goal. Dewerd scored 17:09 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Colorado RoughRiders. Nikita Sokov picked up the assist. Colorado Evolution also got a goal from Eli Hernandez as well. In addition, Colorado Evolution received assists from Matthew Moscati, who had one and Dmitrijs Komarnickis, who had two.

Ashton Opperman recorded 11 saves for Colorado RoughRiders. Sergii Pysarenko rejected 53 shots on goal for Colorado Evolution.
