Schafer's big game bests Whitefish Wolverines in 11-2 Missoula Maulers win

Missoula Maulers' Corey Schafer had a big offensive game, scoring four goals and contributing one assist in his team's 11-2 win over Whitefish Wolverines.

Schafer notched his first tally 9:26 into the first period. He then added goals at 3:03 into the second, at 3:52 into the second, and at 1:08 into the third.

Missoula Maulers was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Missoula Maulers had been spending in the box. Missoula Maulers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Whitefish Wolverines to score on any of its five power plays. Missoula Maulers' offense rang up 57 shots on Whitefish Wolverines' net. Missoula Maulers surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, Missoula Maulers averages 5.3 goals per contest.

Missoula Maulers additionally got points from Chris Laporte, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Sawyer Jacobson, who also registered one goal and three assists, and Tyler Lodin, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Missoula Maulers received assists from Domantas Cypas, Alex Shalamov, Justin Barnes, and Joey Porco, who each chipped in one, Vladislav Zamzhytski and Tyler Zandhuisen, who contributed two each, and Sam Sevcik and Damon Hanson, who each chipped in three.

Whitefish Wolverines racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Whitefish Wolverines had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Missoula Maulers' defense shut down Whitefish Wolverines' forwards for much of the game, and Whitefish Wolverines got off only 14 shots during the contest.

Noah Parker rejected 12 shots on goal for Missoula Maulers. Missoula Maulers registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. Brendan Schultz recorded 46 saves for Whitefish Wolverines.
