Waldman's big game bests Ontario Avalanche in 8-4 Valencia Flyers win

Behind a great game by Jared Waldman, who had one goal and two assists, Valencia Flyers defeated Ontario Avalanche, 8-4.

Waldman beat Chris Skeates with a shot 6:42 into the first period on the power play to make the score 1-0 Valencia Flyers. Antoine Maillard provided the assist.

Valencia Flyers pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 38 penalty minutes.

In a losing effort, Ontario Avalanche was led by Zechariah Roberts, who grabbed two goals. Roberts scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:11 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Valencia Flyers. Maillard picked up the assist. Roberts' next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Valencia Flyers with 16:24 left in the third period. Maillard provided the assist.

Valencia Flyers forced Ontario Avalanche's goalies to work in net, getting 41 shots and forcing 33 saves. Skeates made 21 stops and Daniel Cepila made 12. Valencia Flyers' goal total was higher than its season average. Valencia Flyers averages 4.9 goals per game. Valencia Flyers was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play. Valencia Flyers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Valencia Flyers also got points from Eddie Cordero, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jakob Kranabetter, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Kory Medeiros, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Valencia Flyers also had goals scored by Tyler Lazarek, Ray Wilson, Greg Figg, and Wil Barnett, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Valencia Flyers were Adam Papayoanou and Evan Johnson, who contributed one each and Niklas Giers, Blake Aguilar, and Dawson Keay, who each chipped in two.

Ontario Avalanche found itself short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

Ontario Avalanche additionally got points from Maillard, who also grabbed one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Donovan Shambeau also scored for Ontario Avalanche. More assists for Ontario Avalanche came via Basil Reynolds, who had three.

Silvan Delb made 26 saves for Valencia Flyers on 30 shots. Ontario Avalanche registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
