Phoenix Knights' comeback falls short, Valencia Flyers wins 7-5

Valencia Flyers came close to giving away a four-goal lead to Phoenix Knights, but did just enough to escape with a 7-5 victory.

Valencia Flyers led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Valencia Flyers' Tyler Lazarek scored at 15:13 in the first period to put Valencia Flyers up 4-0.

Adam Papayoanou was all over the ice for Valencia Flyers, as he had two goals in the win. Papayoanou found the back of the net 10:50 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Valencia Flyers and again while 13:02 into the second to make the score 6-4 Valencia Flyers.

Valencia Flyers forced Phoenix Knights goalie Colton Pankiw to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Valencia Flyers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Valencia Flyers averages 4.5 goals per contest. Valencia Flyers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Valencia Flyers finished with 22 penalty minutes. Valencia Flyers got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Valencia Flyers also got points from Niklas Giers, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Lazarek, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Zach Lawson, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Wil Barnett, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Valencia Flyers also got a goal from Jason Hart as well. In addition, Valencia Flyers received assists from Chase Thesman, who had two and Ray Wilson, Greg Figg, Jakob Kranabetter, Kory Medeiros, and Evan Johnson, who each chipped in one.

Phoenix Knights stifled Valencia Flyers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Phoenix Knights' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Phoenix Knights was led by Robert Crisci, who had two goals and two assists. Crisci scored the first of his two goals at 4:23 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Valencia Flyers. Rasmus Alamaa provided the assist. Crisci's next tally made the score 4-3 Valencia Flyers with 13:51 left in the second period. Alamaa picked up the assist. Phoenix Knights additionally got points from Charlie Allen, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Alamaa, who also registered one goal and three assists. More assists for Phoenix Knights came via Reid Hunter, who had one and Brennan Johnsson, who had two.

Ole Nilsen made 18 saves for Valencia Flyers on 23 shots. Valencia Flyers registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Phoenix Knights' Pankiw stopped 33 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Phoenix Knights incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
