Idaho Junior Steelheads beats Missoula Maulers 7-4 as Carlsson gets hat trick

Victor Carlsson netted a hat trick to lead Idaho Junior Steelheads over Missoula Maulers, 7-4.

Carlsson's first goal came 7:05 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:27 into the second and at 18:59 into the third.

Missoula Maulers was unable to stop Idaho Junior Steelheads from sending pucks towards the net, and Idaho Junior Steelheads eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. Idaho Junior Steelheads' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Idaho Junior Steelheads is averaging 1.2 goal against for the season. The defensemen of Idaho Junior Steelheads were also effective in Missoula Maulers' zone, and came away with two goals.

Idaho Junior Steelheads additionally got points from Phil Fromberger, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Idaho Junior Steelheads included Oleg Losev, Kyle Smith, and Kyle Kruenegel, who scored one goal each. Missoula Maulers was led by Austin Azzinnaro, who tallied two goals and one assist. Azzinnaro scored the first of his two goals at 5:24 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Idaho Junior Steelheads. Edward Pollon provided the assist. Azzinnaro's next tally made the score 4-4 with 14:16 left in the third period. Missoula Maulers had gained a power play chance when Carlsson was whistled for fighting. Damon Hanson picked up the assist. Missoula Maulers also got points from Hanson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Sawyer Jacobson also scored for Missoula Maulers. More assists for Missoula Maulers came via Wyatt Mathews, Andrei Shebelbain, Tyler Lodin, Matt Chamberlain, and Corey Schafer, who contributed one each.

Austin Althaus made 18 saves for Idaho Junior Steelheads on 22 shots. Idaho Junior Steelheads totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Noah Parker rejected 38 shots on goal for Missoula Maulers. Missoula Maulers totaled 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 2-for-2 on the power play. For Missoula Maulers, Joey Porco was ejected from the game.
