Jacobson's big game bests Whitefish Wolverines in 6-0 Missoula Maulers win

Behind a great game by Sawyer Jacobson, who had two goals and one assist, Missoula Maulers defeated Whitefish Wolverines, 6-0.

Jacobson found the back of the net 3:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Missoula Maulers and again while 12:59 into the second to make the score 2-0 Missoula Maulers.

Missoula Maulers was boosted by Aron Holmgren, who turned in a shutout with 27 saves. Holmgren certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.6 entering the contest.

Missoula Maulers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Whitefish Wolverines to score on any of its four power plays. Missoula Maulers featured an improved defense during the game. Missoula Maulers allows 2.9 goals per game. Missoula Maulers forced Whitefish Wolverines goalie Brendan Schultz to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Missoula Maulers additionally got points from Sam Sevcik, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Corey Schafer, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Austin Azzinnaro, who also had one goal and one assist. Missoula Maulers also got a goal from Edward Pollon as well. More assists for Missoula Maulers came via Evan Dorwart, Henrik Ekestahl, Alex Shalamov, Tanner Todd, Justin Barnes, and Tyler Lodin, who contributed one each.

Whitefish Wolverines could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Whitefish Wolverines averages 2.2 goals per game.

Missoula Maulers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brendan Schultz made 39 saves for Whitefish Wolverines on 45 shots. Whitefish Wolverines incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
