Lazarev stymies Stratford, Waterloo wins 3-1

The Waterloo Siskins relied on the sparkling performance of Leo Lazarev in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Stratford Cullitons.

The win by Waterloo broke a deadlock and gave the Siskins a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Waterloo was led by Danny Hanlon, who had one goal. Hanlon scored short handed 17:05 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Waterloo. The Siskins found themselves down a man on Troy Lajeunesse's head contact. Christian Mroczkowski assisted on the tally.

Waterloo additionally got points from Evan Kearns, who also registered one goal and one assist. Connor Bodnar also scored for Waterloo. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Nick Hirst and Luke Gazzola, who contributed one each.

Stratford kept Waterloo's goalie busy throughout the game, and Lazarev made 33 saves on 34 shots.

The Cullitons were led by Trevor Sauder, who scored the team's only goal. Sauder scored on the power play 10:47 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Stratford had taken the advantage when the Siskins' Gazzola got sent off for holding. Deven Kropf picked up the assist.

Waterloo totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. The Siskins ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lajeunesse was ejected from the game. Nicholas Caldwell rejected 27 shots on goal for the Cullitons. Stratford totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Cullitons, Josh Miller was ejected from the game.
