Chatham beats Leamington 3-2 after comeback scare

The Chatham Maroons survived a determined comeback attempt by the Leamington Flyers on the way to a 3-2 win.

A goal by Jared Dennis put Chatham up 3-1 in the second period, but Leamington pulled to within one on Alex Seguin's tally 6:52 into the third period.

With the win, the Maroons evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Chatham pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 26 penalty minutes.

The Maroons kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Austyn Roudebush made 30 saves on 33 shots.

Chatham additionally got points from Tanner Ferguson, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Adam Arseneault, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Kyle Brothers, who had one and Michael Verboom, who had three.

Leamington was helped by Nathan Opblinger, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Opblinger scored on the power play 3:11 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Chatham. The Flyers earned a power play opportunity when Steven Szekesy was put in the box for high sticking. Ryan Muzzin provided the assist. Leamington also got points from Seguin, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Leamington received assists from Dylan Seguin, who had one.

Jacob Keogh rejected 20 shots on goal for Chatham. The Maroons registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Leamington incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Flyers, Graham Kelsey was ejected from the game.
