The Leamington Flyers' David Dalby scored 6:20 into overtime to beat the Chatham Maroons, 4-3 (OT). The win gave Leamington a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Flyers came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Leamington trailed 3-1 after a goal by Chatham's Ian Faubert at 3:22 in the third period. The Flyers knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Nathan Opblinger at 14:02 in the third period. Dalby was all over the ice for Leamington, as he finished with two goals in the win. The Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Maroons were unable to stop Leamington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Leamington also got a goal from Alex Seguin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were Ryan Muzzin, Eric Henderson, Mitchell Amante, Tony Spidalieri, Graham Kelsey, and Dylan Seguin, who contributed one each. Chatham forced Leamington goalie Austyn Roudebush to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The Maroons were led by Kyle Brothers, who grabbed two goals. Brothers scored the first of his two goals at 18:46 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Michael Verboom picked up the assist. Brothers' next tally made the score 2-1 Chatham with 18:48 left in the third period. Verboom provided the assist. In addition, Chatham received assists from Adam Arseneault, who had two and Steven Szekesy and James McEwan, who each chipped in one. Roudebush recorded 31 saves for the Flyers. Leamington incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Chatham's Jacob Keogh stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Maroons incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. |
