Caledonia downs St. Catharines, 5-2

The St. Catharines Falcons lost to the Caledonia Corvairs, 5-2.

The win gave Caledonia a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Corvairs' offense rang up 38 shots on St. Catharines' net.

Caledonia was helped by Connor Patton, who registered one goal. Patton scored on the power play 8:50 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Caledonia. The Corvairs had gotten the advantage when the Falcons' Mitch Bursey was sent off for slashing. Spencer Gourlay assisted on the tally. Caledonia additionally got points from Gourlay, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Matt Quilty also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Cody Brown, Mitch Brown, Kyler Nixon, Cosimo Fontana, and Todd Ratchford, who each chipped in one and Jordan Peacock and Connor Murphy, who contributed two each.

St. Catharines was led by Tommy Barszcz, who had one goal and one assist. Barszcz scored on the power play 17:55 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Caledonia. The Falcons earned a power play opportunity when Colin Furlong was put in the box for delay of game. Aaron Taylor provided the assist. St. Catharines also got a goal from Yanni Rallis as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Kyle Woodhouse, who had one.

Furlong recorded 26 saves for Caledonia. The Corvairs incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Knick Dawe made 33 saves for St. Catharines on 38 shots. The Falcons incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. St. Catharines ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cam Blakely was ejected from the game.
