St. Catharines squeaks by Welland, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the St. Catharines Falcons escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Welland Jr. Canadians.

St. Catharines gained the winning advantage on a goal by Ryan Doucette 15:50 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Welland faces elimination next time out.

The Falcons got the win thanks to a great game by Tommy Barszcz, who had two goals and two assists. Barszcz scored the first of his two goals at 12:29 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brennan Feasey picked up the assist. Barszcz's next tally made the score 5-3 St. Catharines with 11 seconds left in the third period.

St. Catharines' offense rang up 36 shots on the Jr. Canadians' net.

St. Catharines also got points from Doucette, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Feasey, who also registered one goal and two assists. Yanni Rallis also scored for St. Catharines. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Broderick Kelly, Tyler Jackson, and Mitch Bursey, who contributed one each.

Welland kept the Falcons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Knick Dawe made 30 saves on 33 shots.

The Jr. Canadians were helped by Jimmy Sheehan, who grabbed one goal. Sheehan scored 9:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland. Miller Hatten provided the assist. Others who scored for Welland included Jack Fitzgerald and Bryan Komasara, who scored one goal each. More assists for Welland came via Adam Mataya, Damien Lalonde, Gabe Ruggi, and Brayden Stortz, who each chipped in one.

St. Catharines incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Falcons, Mark Rodgers was ejected from the game. Jeffrey Heartwell recorded 31 saves for Welland. The Jr. Canadians incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
