Taylor's goals lift St. Catharines to 5-0 victory over Welland

Behind a great game by Aaron Taylor, who had two goals, the St. Catharines Falcons defeated the Welland Jr. Canadians, 5-0.

Taylor found the back of the net 14:32 into the second period to make the score 1-0 St. Catharines and again while on the power play 1:47 into the third to make the score 2-0 St. Catharines.

The win gave St. Catharines a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Knick Dawe spearheaded the defensive effort for the Falcons, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 28 saves for the shutout. Dawe certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 0.37 entering the contest.

Welland's power play was ineffective against St. Catharines' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Falcons stifled the Jr. Canadians' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

St. Catharines also got points from Brandon Cercone, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Brennan Feasey, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ryan Doucette also scored for St. Catharines. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Mark Rodgers, who had two and Broderick Kelly, Yanni Rallis, Cam Blakely, Dillan Walker, and Tyler Hildebrant, who each chipped in one.

St. Catharines totaled 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and two majors and went 2-for-4 on the power play. For the Falcons, Tyler Jackson and Taylor were ejected from the contest. Jeffrey Heartwell made 19 saves for Welland on 24 shots. The Jr. Canadians incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
