Caledonia outlasts Thorold, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Caledonia Corvairs escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Thorold Blackhawks.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Matt Quilty secured the win for Caledonia with a goal in the second period.

The win by the Corvairs broke a deadlock and gave Caledonia a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Quilty had two goals to lead the Corvairs to victory.

Caledonia's offense rang up 35 shots on Thorold's net.

Caledonia additionally got points from Connor Murphy, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Caledonia also had goals scored by Mitch Brown and Cosimo Fontana, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Cody Brown, who had two, Kyler Nixon, who had three, and Jordan Peacock, Chance MacDonald, and Todd Ratchford, who each chipped in one.

The Blackhawks kept the Corvairs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Colin Furlong made 50 saves on 53 shots. Team could not crack Caledonia's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Thorold was led by Owen Sobchak, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Sobchak scored on the power play 12:59 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Blackhawks had gotten the advantage when the Corvairs' Scott Dorian was sent off for too many men. Carl Greco picked up the assist. Thorold also got points from Kevin Lavoie, who also registered one goal and one assist and Joe Mitchell, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Thorold came via Chris Goulet, who had one.

Caledonia incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Brendan Polasek made 30 saves for Thorold on 35 shots. The Blackhawks incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Thorold, Kevin Guzzo was ejected from the game.
